Facts about Bikinis!

Stretch cotton teeny bikiniBikinis top the list when it comes to showing women at their hottest best. Let’s go back in time and see how bikinis have evolved and how women flaunted their curves with confidence wearing one.

It all started in 1913, thirteen years after women were allowed to compete in the Olympics. The famous Carl Janzten introduced a revolutionary two-piece bathing costume that managed to stir quite a scandal. As the European women rocked wearing two-pieces in the 1930s and 40s, the Parisian designer Jacques Heim created the smallest swimsuit in the world, the atome in 1946.

Louis Réard, yet another Parisian designed a swimsuit that was even smaller than the atome, sizing only up to 30 inches. He named it bikini, after Bikini Atoll, a World Heritage Site in the islands of the Pacific Ocean, which hosted the atomic bomb test. He believed (and was certainly right) that the invention of the bikini would create such a stir among people, just as how the atomic bombing tests did. The mass loved it and sent more than 50,000 fan letters to Mr. Réard. He then did an ad campaign, saying “it’s not a real bikini unless it could be pulled through a wedding ring”.

In 2003, Demi Moore made a drastic comeback with Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, but talks prevail that the scene in which she walks out of the ocean in a sexy bikini was the secret behind the fame! The latest buzz, Kate Upton landed in the front cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition of the year. Sporting a small bikini (which can easily pass through a wedding ring), she sure has done Mr. Reard proud!
